I watched this last night for the first time in years, and sadly it wasn't as good as I remember. However, it's a nice storyline with a great message; follow your dreams. Jennifer Beals is beautiful here, but the best thing about this film by far is the music.Such wonderful songs and the soundtrack brought back so many memories of my dance classes in high school. I also have vivid memories of "Flashdance" because my dad took me to see it,even though it was rated R. As weird as it sounds, I wish there would have been more dancing in the movie. My favorite scene in this film is where Jennifer Beals' character is walking down a hallway surrounded by ballet students. She is on her way to get an application to pursue her dreams. I found that scene to be so unique, because her baggy outfit is contrasted against the ballet students' simple and flowing costumes. Such a great scene and one that is really pivotal to the story, IMO. This film does have an R rating and at first I wondered why. Sadly, by the middle of the film, we learn why; the overuse of the "F" word, other swear words, references to lovemaking and nudity as seen in a nightclub/bar. However, it shouldn't bother most since this movie isn't suitable for kids, even without the questionable material. It will definitely bore kids.
