Laurel is given a school assignment to write a letter to someone who is deceased. The entire book is letters she has written to deceased famous people. Through the letter we learn May's (Laurel's deceased older sister) story and slowly Laurel's story is revealed as well. It reminded me of 13 Reasons Why because the of method of communicating the story.
