A somewhat convoluted and unpredictable plot with lots of twists and turns. At times a slightly slow pace with numerous sub-plots and some peripheral characters that perhaps were not needed. Malcolm Fox, works for the "Complaints" department that investigates 'dirty cops'. He begins investigating Jamie Breck and as the plot unfolds both are suspended but their relationship slowly turns to respect and finally friendship as they solve this complex case while off-duty. Overall a good read and worth the effort but certainly not my favorite Rankin novel.
