Remakes of "classics" are seldom appreciated and most comparisons are done at the expense of the updated version, usually with justification. This version of "The Lady Vanishes" has different directoral tones reflecting an increased importance of Iris Carr's determination to get to the bottom of the mystery of the disappearance. The way it is done certainly makes the lead female character less likeable and the male support roles weaker but the suspense still holds and the movie has better theatric credits than the original in scenery and costume. Like many PBS shows, it's well worth watching for those who like the cozy English mystery genre.
