Bad execution of a brilliant story idea. Epic failure to capture the magic of Hatteras Island. This books is a far cry from Nicholas Sparks' Nights in Rodanthe. I cannot fathom how this book made the list of the 101 best romance novels of the past 10 years. Pat Conroy, Dorthea Benton Frank, and Elin Hilderbrand eloquently and passionately write beach books. Although the author visited Hatteras Island, she failed miserably in assimilating the culture. This book could have and should have been written about a struggling small town in the author's native Texas. It would have made for a wonderful, inspiring Hallmark movie. The plot was clunky. The story arcs were poorly delivered.
