OUTSTANDING 1953 movie with talented little (5'1") Leslie Caron at age 22. Not sure how I missed this all these years - but now I've seen it and enjoyed it as one of the best movies EVER (for me). Lots of fabulous scenes like Leslie dancing in her red waitress dress, and doing somewhat competititive dance with beautiful Zsa Zsa Gabor, both in glamorous gold gowns. The male leads Mel Ferrer and new to me John-Pierre Aumont (as the magician who does several terrific on screen stunts) are excellent, too. The underlying story is emotionally compelling - the waking up from the romantic dreamworld of a young girl becoming a woman. Rather sophisticated with lines like 'we don't learn, we just get older - and we know'. Fun carnival setting with terrific production numbers; especially the near ending dream ballet/dance of the living puppets- wow! Rates up at the very top - like Judy Garland in 'The Harvey Girls', also highly recommended and available at KCLS.
