Filmed in Hollywood while WW2 was still in full swing over in Europe - "The Clock" ticks away the time, allowing Corporal Joe Allen a 48-hour leave in New York City. And, sure enough, it takes less than an hour for good, old Joe to find the love of his life at busy Penn Station.

Yes. This b&w Rom/Com from 1945 had its good moments, as well as its not-so-good moments. It is surprising that actress/singer, Judy Garland wasn't given even a single song to sing - But, all the same, she did put in a fairly likable and sincere performance as Alice Mayberry, the apple of Joe's eye.

Can you believe a Hollywood Rom/Com starring Judy Garland and she doesn't sing a single note in it!?... Well - Believe it - 'Cause she doesn't.

Personally, I think that if Garland had been given a couple of ditties to twitter that certainly would've helped to liven things up and move things along in this corny'n'cute "boy-meets-girl" story from 1945.

Mind you - There were some entertaining moments to enjoy in this happy/sad little tale. And, I especially liked the bum-note that this one's story ended on. (Yeah. I thought that it was a nice touch)

"The Clock" was directed by Vincent Minnelli who would soon be romantically involved with Garland.

*Note* - Be sure to watch this DVD's bonus short "Hollywood Scout". I thought that it was much more entertaining than was "The Clock".

This is a refreshing role for both Robert Walker and Judy Garland. Judy doesn't have to sing, in fact, she can play herself. She seems like a very wonderful person from the movie. Robert Walker on the other hand, he can play himself. He had played bad guys most of the time. So we have two people we really like who have a short romance. There is definitely an innocence about each of them. They really are finding there way to fall in love on short notice. Rushing things has it's pitfalls. This is definitely one of Judy Garland best non singing roles. She is a great actress. The Clock has just the right amount of time to capture most peoples hearts. It did for at least my wife and I, but we love an old fashioned romance.

this movie was fluff. I bet it packed a punch in 1945 but nowadays it seemed contrived and goofy. I wondered if Liza M was conceived during this movie since her father was the director of the movie?
