Loretta Chase is so good at what she does. I love how well-matched her heroes and heroines always are, I love the amount of period detail she always includes (this time, the main conflict between the two lead characters is over the building of a canal, and you can tell Chase did her research on the economics of the time), and oh, man, I love her dialogue so. much. This was charming, like all of her books, and from the very first page Alistair and Mirabel (which, as a side note, might be the most hilariously over-the-top romance character names I’ve read in a while) were so obviously engaged in a battle of equals. I love romances where the power dynamics feel equitable, and that was definitely the case here. Highly recommended for historical romance fans!
