typical john wayne movie. plot more than a little confusing between the action shots
Many directors have tried to capture the size of the disaster from the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Director Otto Preminger with "In Harms Way" concentrates of the U.S. Naval response after the attack. We were significantly at a disadvantage militarily, but our Navy fought back successfully. With John Wayne and Kurt Douglas as commanding officers, Preminger shows how all our military forces combines acted to defeat the Japanese. It is an inspiring story and one for the history books. Their is no glamorization of the attacks with "In Harms Way". I give it a Five Star Salute as an Epic Film of the Pearl Harbor Attack!
John Wayne can be an admiral and with Otto Preminger the director, it works! Add Kirk Douglas, Henry Fonda and Patricia Neal to a wonderful script. The story takes place at Pearl Harbor at the time of the Japanese attack. It is a story of a love affair, a father and son making up for lost years, and the relationship John Wayne has with his fellow officers. It is great to see John Wayne in a role as a Navy Admiral. He really could stretch himself with this demanding role.
