A tad disappointing.

The author spends eight pages dictating her own notions of a proper colour scheme, which sets the somewhat didactic tone of the rest of the book. Knight's preference, perhaps not surprisingly, is for a conservative, limited and repetitive palette of mostly naturals and neutrals.

None of the Knight's projects are striking in and of themselves, but she provides some attractive ideas for embellishment. The relative simplicity of the patterns is attributable to Knight's successful effort to ensure that her book is straightforward and beginner-friendly.

Knight's decision to execute her patterns in contrasting materials adds interest to her projects. She is skillful at manipulating texture, for wonderfully tactile design results. At the same time, it's hard to imagine that a pillow knitted from string would be very comfortable.

Production values are high, but the photos are long on atmosphere and short on clarity. The scale can be confusing and frustrating, with some photos taken so close-up that it's impossible to deduce what the finished product looks like.

Some of the projects can be viewed on Ravelry, but the book is out of print.

N.B. By "felted", Knight means that the yarn is felted before purchase; she did not felt any of the finished products.

Truly this book knows what comfort is. Imagine a knitting book that has graduated projects that make practical and beautiful things for your home. And ir isn''t only about cushions and throws! (Although there are some wonderful ones in here.) Rag rugs, slippers, bath mitt and robe, square baskets, and bags. And each technique is explained fully in color photos so that you can always feel completely at home. Now if I only had enough time to do all these fabulous projects!
