I loved this book. It's a nice summer read (as it takes place mostly in summer, of course) and the fantasy world created is great. Nothing too strange, just another magical race, the aliora, and some herb magic. The romance is wonderful - she ended up with the guy I wanted her to most in the end, but it wasn't cheesy. In fact, the ending, not to give away anything, surprised me but I was happy with it.

Fun, lighthearted coming of age story. Full of intrigue, suspense and the requisite happy ending.

I loved this book. I read it for the first time last summer exploring all of Shinn's novels; this one definately had to be one of my favourites. It has everything from humorous romance to the thought provoking betrayal to a bit of action and adventure. In the end, it was a perfect fairytale.

I will try to remember what happened. So there is a girl who visits the castle in which her older sister lives. And her older sister of beauty is arranged to get married to the Prince. Meanwhile this goes on, the girl becomes intrigued with the Prince's cousin. Although there meetings are not say all so pleasent. They go through the 'I don't particularly like you' to becoming 'the satisfactory, I could live with you if I had to'. The Prince has a baby with a maid and I think kills himself or dies in some manner of sorts. The summer is over and the girl departs her sister and leaves to go back home. In the end the crown goes to the cousin who is infatuated with the girl.

"In Alora, the streets run with magic--you inhale rainbows when you breathe. The air is scented with cinnamon and decorated with song. No man lives in want, no child goes unloved...this is true for the aliora, and it is true of the humans who have chosen to live among us. Come to Alora. See for yourself."

Elisandra was laughing. She reached out and took both my offending hands in hers. "Oh, silly Corie, Bryan kisses lots of girls on the hand. On the mouth, too, when there aren't four or five other people watching nearby. Bryan's a terrible flirt. He can't help it. All the girls are crazy for the handsome young prince."
