Add a CommentThe "fun extras" where okay, but some parts, I will admit, were a tad boring. Definitely do not read if you have not read the other books in the series. Loved the pictures and the novella was nice, though I felt like it didn't really answer Legacy' s cliffhanger and it was a little weird. Keefe acted like a different person. Overall, good read for a KOTLC fan.
THIS WAS SUUUUCH A GOO BOOK!! (Well, the Novella was at least). I DO wish that it was all Keefe's point of view, BUT I'm not gonna complain. ļļļļļļ!!! I can't wait for the ninth book to come out!! Also, WHYYY KEEFE!?!?! AND at least she now has a chance with Keefe now that Fitz is out of the picture!!ššš
I liked this book. Being able to read the registry was pretty cool, and I liked the recipes. Another thing to do in quarantine. I like the cinnacreme recipe a lot. I also liked the art. She did do a lot of A.N.'s, when all I wanted to do was read, but it did show us what Sandor, Grizel, Bo, Ro, Flori, Elwin, Livvy, Amy, Quan, Mai, Prentice, Cyrah and Wylie look like. I also skipped to the Novella at the end, but it kinda was disappointing about the Forgotten Secret. Not going to spoil.
Also, that was pretty good about Keefe's new abilities. But a polyglot? Why that?
Anyway, overall, I'm gonna give this book a 4 1/2.
Unlocked was a great book, with lots of fun extras! I've been wanting to see a lot of this official art for a while now and learn more about each of the main characters! (Sadly, I did not learn more about the Great Gulon Incident.) However, like most of the other comments, I wish that there were less "fun extras" and more "story". I get that this was a novella, but I think that all the big events and the big plot twists were too big and a bit too good to be true. The plot went a bit faster than the previous keeper books. (or at least as I thought) Overall, it was a good book to read...but I feel like Shannon Messenger is running out of ideas. To me, books 1-6 were a lot more engaging. Hopefully, when book 9 comes around, the plot will be less rushed.
You know what. I should have said this a LONG time ago but here it is. If this were a real-life situation I COULD HAVE JUST USED MY SPYBALL TO FIND ALL THE MEMBERS OF THE NEVERSEEN, FIND ALL THEIR HIDEOUTS, AND FIND ALVAR... But I know it won't happen in this story because that would make it too easy UwU
Now, I know what y'all are thinking. Who does this girl think she is, putting a 2 1/2 star rating on a koltc book. But I'm being totally honest, that was disappointing. Here are my reasons.
negatives:
1) Idk about y'all I was expecting an actual story. Ik it's a novella, but I read the desc. of the book online, and it doesn't mention the fact that this is 2/3 an explanation/detailed account of the worldbuilding and is only 1/3 story. Actually, it says, it "picks up right after legacy." and that claim made me feel annoyed because at exactly 63% of the ebook is when the story starts, so in actuality, only 37% of the book is story.
2) I already read the other 8 books so I don't need a huge overview, and it felt like reading through a textbook .
3) The Gulon incident is not included.
4) Ending sucked. It was a cliffhanger that was actually kinda predictable. I get cliffhangers are her "thing" but it's getting old.
5) Feels like a recycled plot. Like I can only read about ppl passed out in the healing center or just stuck there bc of injuries so many times. The ending feels recycled too, but no spoilers.
6) Questions are not answered, and we leave with copies of the same questions.
7) Keefe's character development falls flat. He was my favorite character and still is (I <3 keefe), but he's never given the chance to grow and just runs away from everything (emotions, situations, ect).
Positives:
1) I feel like this will come in handy ages later when I'm feeling like I want to read a specific book in the series but I need c o n t e x t. But, it should have been released later on at the end of the series so that readers can use it for this very purpose.
2) I liked the baking recipes in the book. One more thing to try during quarantine.
3) Clear indicator of SoKeefe. <3
4) Ilustrations are pretty although the artist is sus.
5) More Dex. <3
I had read the first book for my library book club and it was ok. I didn't continue but my dad became obsessed! He got this book, Unlocked, and read it in two days! He really enjoys the series and is hooked. From him to you (but me writing this), It's AWESOME!!!
Really great! The guide in the first part is great for reference, and I especially liked reading through aaaaaalll of Sophie's medical files and aaaaaalll of Keefe's prank reports. I also love how Keefe went through with [NAME REDACTED] and edited all of his sections on the registry file. :)
The novella at the end was great too. I loved how Shannon Messenger switched between Sophie and Keefe's points of view. I don't want to spoil anything, so I won't say what happens that I love so much, but the novella is definitely worth reading.
Kind of disappointed because the first 500 or so pages of the book was all just extra stuff. Only about 100-200 pages was the actual story. But otherwise, thr story part was very interesting and I liked how Shannon provided Keefe's point of view.
I just wish Shannon made it all in Keefe's point of view but hey I guess we at least get to see what his thoughts are and his surroundings and his love for Sophie, I just love Keefe!!!!!!!!!Please just let the book out already I'm literally gonna die!!!!!! This would be an amazing movie, Please be a movie soooooooon!!!!!!!
