Welcome to the most tumultuous summer of the twentieth century. It's 1969, and for the Levin family, the times they are a-changing. Every year the children have looked forward to spending the summer at their grandmother's historic home in downtown Nantucket. But like so much else in America, nothing is the same: Blair, the oldest sister, is marooned in Boston, pregnant with twins and unable to travel. Middle sister Kirby, caught up in the thrilling vortex of civil rights protests and determined to be independent, takes a summer job on Martha's Vineyard. Only son Tiger is an infantry soldier, recently deployed to Vietnam. Thirteen-year-old Jessie suddenly feels like an only child, marooned in the house with her out-of-touch grandmother and her worried mother, each of them hiding a troubling secret. As the summer heats up, Ted Kennedy sinks a car in Chappaquiddick, man flies to the moon, and Jessie and her family experience their own dramatic upheavals along with the rest of the country.

Cool romance, light-reminded me of reading my first romance novels in the summer.

Takes you back to peace, love & war....Nixon, women's rights, Chappaquiddick, Woodstock & Vietnam. It is a fun & nostalgic journey for those who remember the summer of '69.

t's 1969 and the Levin family is ready to go to Nantucket where they go every summer. Before that though, their worst nightmare happened - their son, Tiger, was drafted and sent to the Vietnam war and there's nothing they can do to stop it. The three siblings back in Nantucket are on their own. Blair is pregnant, Kirby is trying to make the world a better place and work through civil right struggles and Jessie is a thirteen year old just trying to figure out where her place is in the world.

The story dives into each of the siblings stories as well as their struggling mother and their grandmother who has secrets of her own! Each of the Levin family members is trying to get through life their own way. Each person goes through their own personal struggle as well as the struggles that men and women both went through during the 1969 time period. One thing is for sure even when this family is apart, they always come together.

I'm not typically a fan of historical fiction but I really enjoyed this book. You look at the cover and you think this is going to be a light beach read, right? Wrong. This story has content and depth.

Well-spun yarn about a Brahmin family’s trials and tribulations during the turbulent sixties. Historical accuracy along with the locales of Boston, Brookline and Nantucket made for an enjoyable read. Looking back, the social upheavals of those days aren’t much different than they are today. I guess everything old IS new again. Although thankfully, expectant mothers of today aren’t consuming alcohol or tobacco. I would hope not.

The ultimate summer reading book. Also, a great escape when we are stuck at home. Got this from a Little Free Library. Passing it on while the library is closed. From a safe distance.

I loved this book and raced through it. The characters were engaging as well as the setting - who doesn't love Nantucket? Definitely recommend if you like historical fiction and great
character development.
