Jess hadn't seen her survivalist, off-the-grid dad in over a decade. But after a car crash killed her mother and left her injured, she was forced to move to his cabin in the remote Canadian wilderness. Just as Jess was beginning to get to know him, a secret from his past paid them a visit, leaving her father dead and Jess stranded. With only her father's dog for company, Jess must forage and hunt for food, build shelter, and keep herself warm. Some days it feels like the wild is out to destroy her, but she's stronger than she ever imagined. Jess will survive. She has to. She knows who killed her father . . . and she wants revenge.

A YA thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I thought it would be just a survivalist book, and it is that, but it has enough elements of a traditional thriller to keep both adults and teens interested.

I was expecting this book to be a generic young girl saves the day book, but it wasn't that at all. Instead it was an incredibly breathtaking and vivid read. I read the entire book in one sitting. I'm not going to say anything more, just read this beautiful, tear inducing book for yourself.

"My life has become a list of things that almost killed me." A strange and improbable list, but fully immersive and adrenaline-soaked. It's a wilderness tale story with a twist. And a twist. Tense and tangible and hard to put down. Highly satisfying.

Jess hasn't seen her dad, who lives in the Canadian wilderness, for 10 years. Then her mother dies and she is forced to move in with him. The two have barely reached a detente when her father is murdered and his cabin is burned down by his unsavory colleagues. Now Jess, along with her dad's dog Bo, must survive in the Canadian wilderness as winter approaches. A story of survival, suspense... and revenge.

I absolutely loved this book! At first I wasn't sure as it would bounce between time frames but reeled me in while doing so. The whole book was exciting and I couldn't put it down. Will read this again!
Edit: I have read this 3 times now and still love this book!

To survive you need to learn to hold contradictory things in your head at the same time. I am going to die; I am going to live. There is nothing to fear; be wary of everything.
