During Barack Obama's two terms, Pete Souza was with the President during more crucial moments than anyone else--and he photographed them all. Souza captured nearly two million photographs of President Obama, in moments highly classified and disarmingly candid. Obama: An Intimate Portrait reproduces more than 300 of Souza's most iconic photographs with fine-art print quality in an oversize collectible format. Together they document the most consequential hours of the Presidency--including the historic image of President Obama and his advisors in the Situation Room during the bin Laden mission--alongside unguarded moments with the President's family, his encounters with children, interactions with world leaders and cultural figures, and more. Souza's photographs, with the behind-the-scenes captions and stories that accompany them, communicate the pace and power of our nation's highest office. They also reveal the spirit of the extraordinary man who became our President. We see President Obama lead our nation through monumental challenges, comfort us in calamity and loss, share in hard-won victories, and set a singular example to "be kind and be useful," as he would instruct his daughters.

I absolutely LOVED this book! Read it in only a few days but I immersed myself in the beautiful pictures. This is not a book of a lot of printed words but the pictures say a lot. I'll be honest; I'm a big fan of President Obama so it was only natural for me to love all of the pictures of him in various situations. I don't know that people who aren't fond of him would enjoy reading a book like this but I do recommend it to everyone. The pictures are wonderful; Some of them made me laugh, some made me cry. The book itself is heavy (weight-wise) so it's not really a book that you can carry with you on a plane. It would make a wonderful coffee table book, however. It showcases Obama's entire presidential career from their first meeting when he was a senator to his last day at the White House. I have wanted to meet him for a long time and reading this only increased that want. Hopefully someday it will happen. in the meantime, I am going to look for other books by Mr. Souza. I'm sure his other pictures are just as wonderful. He definitely has an amazing talent.

Excellent photography! A rather heavy coffee table book recording the Obama days of hope and inspiration. Judging from the shots, Obama was a people's President, someone who exuded charm and invited others to following a goal of hope and unity for the Americans. And the world. Judging from Souza's excellent work, Obama enjoyed being with kids and was equally comfortable with world leaders (elected or otherwise). There are several shots of his kids: his love for his family is well captured in this work.
These are just a handful of the thousands of photographs taken by Souza, most of which will be at the Obama library, and still others, I hear, will only be with the Obama family.
4.9 stars: why? being an amateur, mediocre, wannabe photographer with a passion to record hope and happiness in this planet, I would have liked to know Souza's camera settings for each shot, and the equipment he used.
Altogether an excellent registry of the good old days : sad that it had to end.

Wonderful book about the Greatest President in this century. Too bad we have a traitor in the White House now.

Pete Souza is so talented, and this collection of some of his best, most poignant, most striking photos from the Obama era is stunning. As the daughter of a photographer, I've always been a firm believer in the power of images, and this is a perfect illustration of how powerful photos can be. His accompanying recollections were interesting to read, and I think the book is stronger for it, but truly, these images could speak for themselves.

What a beautiful Book! This book of photographs of President Obama during his two terms is just so hard to describe. The pictures are sharp and technically perfect while at the same time really sensitive. President Obama has an expressive face which lends itself well to pictures and Souza has done a masterful job of capturing these expressions. Special mention must be made of pics with kids where Obama is at his best. This is a book that everybody must own.

A beautiful book. The photographs are awesome. It's obvious that Pete Souza, the photographer, after spending 8 years, day in and day out, with Barack Obama has tremendous respect and admiration for his 'subject'. The only thing that would make this book even better is more text and stories to accompany the photos.
