Add a CommentDayna Anderson, a famous black actress in Hollywood, is in desperate need of money, especially since her parents didn’t have enough money to pay off the mortgage for their house. However, when she witnesses a fatal hit-and-run and realizes there is a substantial reward for any information leading to the arrest, Dayna plays the role of an amateur detective in hopes of claiming the reward money. When she is under investigation, she finds out that the case could potentially be connected to an infamous crime spree. This sends her on a very unconventional yet grand mission to chase down the murderer until Dayna herself becomes a target. I really liked this book because it had quite a few gripping surprise twists that kept me on my toes. It had a nice combination of a cozy mystery with a more light, humorous mystery. The character portrayals were very engaging and I loved the undercover detective aspects.
A bolder style of cozy that has a bit of chick lit flavor. Normally I prefer my crime novels grimmer, but the characters kept me interested and I'm not sure the last time I laughed this much while reading a crime novel. I definitely plan to read more in this series and by this author. If you enjoy a fun quick mystery, this is a good choice.
This was a fun read. At first, I thought I would tire of the style of jokes but I didn’t. I liked the main character and enjoyed her attempts to identify the killer. I want to read more in this series.
Dayna is a struggling actress in Los Angeles. When she witnesses a possible murder she decides to try her hand as a detective. This book is fast paced and fun to read with a hilarious group of supporting characters! First in a series!
