This is a good start for a series, and a pretty good story in it's own right. Some of the characters could use more development, but the main characters were filled in as the novel progressed.

The universe this novel encompasses is vast, with a mystique that hopefully will be explored more as the series progresses. The setting of the particular planet is interesting, a somewhat skewed version of Dune, perhaps, with a major conflict between the miners and the corporation. The female protagonist is just the right tool for the times, and with the help of her friends sets out to set the world aright.
