1920. American adventuress Beryl Helliwell craves some peace and quiet, and Walmsley Parva in the English countryside seems just the ticket. Honestly, until America repeals Prohibition, Beryl has no intention of returning stateside. For over three decades, Edwina Davenport has lived comfortably in Walmsley Parva, but the post-World War I bust has forced her to advertise for a lodger-- and long-lost school chum Beryl crashes into her doorstep in her motorcar. When the town displays a hidden sinister side, they decide to set up shop as private inquiry agents.

This book was absolutely fantastic! I often find cozy mysteries that are set in the 1920's to just plod along until they put me to sleep, but not this one. I was completely engaged and found it difficult to put down. This one is the 1st in a new cozy mystery series that is set in 1920's Great Britain, and not only does it have a great mystery that's filled with twists and turns, it also does an excellent job of exploring issues of war injuries, post-traumatic stress, feminism, poverty, and class-ism, in a way that enlightens, rather than preaches. I can hardly wait for book #2 to be released! I highly recommend this book!
