Couldn’t believe this was Merchant and Ivory series. So badly done didn’t watch it.

The book won the Booker Prize. The film has great actors and actresses but falls flat even as a historical drama. A better film to watch about India and the Raj, perhaps, would be A Passage to India, or most any film by Satyajit Ray about the period like The Chess Players or The Music Room. Watch this film having been forewarned. Namaste.

About half way through I had to ask myself "Why am I watching this?" and when I couldn't answer the question I turned it off. 'One star, for what, I don't know'.
