Impressed with the director/writer Cristian Mongiu. This focuses on corruption. The authoritarian system forces behavior, but you can also see that individuals try to use whatever connections and resources they can muster in order to get ahead. Well acted.

Having now seen my second Cristian Mungiu film, I'm beginning to think that he is one of the greatest living film directors. It is good to see the Criterion Collection to release two of films that have never been available in the USA. The DVD included two large supplements, one of which he explains very clearly in 30 minutes what he tries to include in his films. While not explicitly explained in the film, I suspect that the parents represent life of educated Romanians who treaded water during the Communist regime and the younger generation life under the post USSR democratic regime.
