He was a tough-guy Welshman softened by the affections of a breathtakingly beautiful woman; she was a modern-day Cleopatra madly in love with her own Mark Antony. For nearly a quarter of a century, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton were Hollywood royalty, and their fiery romance--often called "the marriage of the century"--was the most notorious, publicized, and celebrated love affair of its day.

I am such a fan of old Hollywood and all the black and white movies of the past. I loved learning about this couple. What a passionate and heartbreaking romance they had! This book was INCREDIBLY well researched. There was SO much detail. Perhaps more detail than I was always interested in. For example, there were long explanations of each of Elizabeth's jewellery pieces that I wasn't terribly interested in, but I'm sure these were fascinating details for other readers. The first half of the book was really interesting and then it started to feel really long and was harder to be motivated through. Still, I enjoyed this book and I was very impressed with the scope of research that contributed to all the quotes, stories, and varying perspectives of the love story between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. I found it fun to watch some of the movies that they mentioned, all while knowing the stories behind many of the scenes. This was a really amazing and thorough book. But I only recommend it if biographies of old Hollywood actors is your thing.
