The majority opinion is apparently that the Thor franchise needed to be fixed, and that this fixed it. I'm not totally sold on either point but I will allow that this movie was entertaining to watch. For me, it was somewhat jarring to get such trippy, zany wackiness from the Marvel setting that was the most grand and fanciful. Even so, the one thing I really wish they had done differently was give Thor a chance to react to the deaths of most of his friends. Maybe a lot of the audience didn't care about those characters, but THOR certainly cared, and watching his friends die and never getting ANY reaction at all from Thor felt very unsatisfying. Nothing drawn-out of excessively emotional, just... something. All that said though, the villain was effectively terrifying, the action was very cool, and the events of Infinity War make this film important in retrospect.

Easily the best Thor movie and the funniest film from Marvel since the first Guardians of the Galaxy.

I guess you need an exception to every rule. Marvel has been amazing at keeping the bar high, and even raising it. But this was, along with Iron Man 3, tremendously disappointing. They attempted to add the type of humor used very successfully used in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. However the attempt came off sophomoric and poorly setup. What was worse was that they did it with characters that don't act that way, completely changing their characters. Very disappointing.
If you enjoyed the first two Thor movies and like the characters (and the Hulk characters) as they are, don't watch this one.

I love the introduction of humor into this franchise. Thor felt a little stiff up until this point, focusing on a relationship more than the actual development of the universe. However, there were some drawbacks for me. The plot didn't feel quite as developed compared to other films in the Marvel universe. I wish there was a little more time spent on developing Thor's timeline.

Thor: Ragnarok is like no other Marvel film as director Taika Waititi took a playful spin on the Thor sequel. Full of vibrant colours, hilarious jokes, lively music, and handsome, talented actors and actresses, Ragnarok is upbeat and unlike the typical, serious superhero films that Marvel produces. Ragnarok almost feels like a break, or a breather, from the fighting and action that is prominent in other Marvel films (but there is great action in this film, too). The characters are definitely a bit odd and, perhaps, ridiculous, but these attributes make the them all the more unique and diverse. The villain, especially, is an excellent, loveable character; not only does she actually have personality and charisma, she has a well-thought-out backstory that makes her more a part of the story, not just a barrier between the protagonist and his success. She most certainly differs from most movie villains, not just the ones in Marvel. Overall, Thor: Ragnarok is such a wonderful, ingenious Marvel movie. 5/5 stars.

I do like to laugh. Superhero movies (or comics) that take things too seriously don't see me sticking around for the end. Thor has always been one of my favorite characters and I was appalled by some of the ridiculous treatment he got in historical versions of the comics (a lame Dr secret identity? Really?)

This was fun, and I ask for very little more than that from such a movie.

I went and saw this in a theatre and was not disappointed. I found this to be one of the best Thor films!
The depth of characters and subtle humour was bang on with providing interest and new found life, in the Thor and the Avengers series, with Chris Hemsworth.
Fine acting and writing!

Thor: Ragnarok breaks the usual superhero movie story pattern of a big baddie who wants to take over Earth and then the universe. It's the story of a big baddie who wants to take over Asgard and then the universe. And it's not some random villain, but Thor's half (?) sister, yo. Okay, story progress is slow at Marvel, but it's something. I can understand how some comic book fans may not like this film. As you might expect with this director, it doesn't take superhero-dom quite seriously, and sometimes the humour does slow down the action. On the other hand, some fans say T: R captures the lighter, fantastic tone of the books, and I would argue the humour is balanced by some moments that are deeper than those in the previous films. As someone who doesn't care one way or the other about the comic books, I can say it's an entertaining summer movie.

Lots in IMDb already ... Thor and his hammer:

Our sister destroyed your hammer like a piece of glass.
===
I really wish I had my hammer.
===
You rode a hammer?
-No, I didn't ride the hammer.
The hammer rode you on your back?
===
Sounds like you had a pretty special and intimate relationship with this hammer and that losing it was almost comparable to losing a loved one.
===
But so much has happened since I last saw you. I lost my hammer.
===
She's too strong. Without my hammer, I can't.
-Are you Thor, the God of Hammers? That hammer was to help you control your power, to focus it. It was never your source of strength.

"Well, I tried to start a revolution, but didn't print enough pamphlets so hardly anyone turned up. Except for my mum and her boyfriend, who I hate. As punishment, I was forced to be in here and become a gladiator. Bit of a promotional disaster that one, but I'm actually organizing another revolution. I don't know if you'd be interested in something like that? Do you reckon you'd be interested?" - Korg

Hulk: Hulk always... always angry.

Thor: I know. We're the same, you and I. Just a couple of hot-headed fools.

Hulk: Yeah, same. Hulk like fire, Thor like water.

Thor: Well, we're kind of both like fire.

Hulk: But Hulk like real fire. Like... raging fire. Thor like smouldering fire.
