A helpful book of child-raising advice from two respected and experienced child psychologists. The authors discuss what it takes to make a life-ready child. The authors discuss the methods that don't work to create healthy adults and the approach they have outlined in GIST. The authors claim that this is a book about "growing up your children". The title refers to the word "gist", the bottom line, the truth, or the inner workings of something.

The last few generations of young adults have a problem most people in previous generations didn't have: many young adults have never observed effective parenting. The role models they observed were either ineffective or downright dreadful. This is a book that can help parents become better than the ones they saw when they were growing up.

Excellent for the current generation of parents. Most of these ideas weren't needed 20-30 years ago. Parents just did this.
