Thoroughly enjoyable vacation at a house party at an ancient Welsh castle. Elizabeth loves books and the impressive collection of the Duke of Haverford, but comes to find the Duke himself much more engaging. Feeling he isn’t in a position to offer marriage due to his forebears’ bookish extravagances, the couple relishes their stolen moments together and we feel their torment. Sherbourne, the socially bumbling businessman who crashes the house party with evil intentions, thankfully is found “educable” with some capable assistance. Serious challenges are resolved in a clever and peaceable way, including Elizabeth’s dream of establishing lending libraries. I look forward to watching Sherbourne’s further development in the next novel of the series, where he and Elizabeth’s sister explore their mutual attraction. Enjoyable subplots include the touching love interest of Julian’s mentally challenged brother. Love is in the air, and Grace Burrowes gives us all hope that it is for everyone.
