about shortwave radios, and their efficacy in finding lost famous persons: amelia earhart. several amateur radio operators heard her broadcasts after she crashlanded her plane on an island. and then she lived for years until being executed by the japanese. of course these amateurs were not believed by the government (can it be the american government did not want to find her?) sooner or later the term ' ideas of reference' gets introduced, and you start looking for a lawyer.

I have always enjoyed John Cusack in so many roles, but not this one. No plot. The dialogue was written by illiterates. Wooden acting. Instead of wasting 89 minutes on this movie, I'd recommend spending that amount of time at the dentist getting a filling, or perhaps a prostate exam from your doctor, or staring at a wall watching the paint dry. Any of those alternatives would be more amusing than this visual vomit.

This is a very good action flick starring John Cusack and Malin Ackerman. He's a burnt out assassin. She's a codebreaker. They both work for a CIA-like numbers station where each eight hour shift a series of codes are encrypted and sent into the field to agents. Most of those codes are for assassinations. Then one afternoon they come to work and are shot at by assassins trying to take over the station. One of the vehicles is blown up and she's impaled with a large piece of steel. They make it inside only to discover the previous shift's pair were murdered and fifteen codes sent out that were not legitimate. That's fifteen unsanctioned assassinations. While he tries to keep them alive from the assassins trying to break back in, she's trying to decode the fifteen codes so she can cancel those orders. Add to that the complication that he's been ordered to kill her to protect the code. Cusack has made some stinkers in the last few years. This one and On Frozen Ground are among his best.

Very disappointing. John Cusack is an exceptional actor and must have owed the studio on this one. Not recommended by me!

Not bad. Low budget production but it was quite entertaining.

Tense and taut thriller. I liked it.

Google Shortwave. This numbers thing appears to exist. A long time ago my father had a shortwave radio. My parents came from Europe after the War. It was a way to for them to listen in on clandestine broadcasts from the Old Country then behind the so called Iron Curtain. Sometimes I fiddled with the dials and heard lots of weird things. A couple of times I actually heard airline pilots communicating with control towers. It all started with The Enigma Machine (Google it).
I think I'm going to go out and buy a very good shortwave radio. Sounds like fun.

Not as intriguing as Safe House (Denzel Washington) but couldn't help but to sympathize with the extreme hazards at or away from work as disposable and inescapable black ops agents.

This is a pretty entertaining thriller. It doesn't have a lot of movement though, as most of the film takes place inside a numbers station, so overall the movie wasn't as dynamic as it could have been. It still has action and the plot is pretty good, it's just that films that unfold at pretty much one location almost always get a little bit boring for me. It's still worth watching overall though.

Max: [Meredith holding a gun on him] You're shaking now. You're getting angry. You're letting your emotions get the better of the situation. The adrenalin, it's really kickin' in. What I know? The reason that I'm not shaking is because this is a choice not dictated by emotion. This is logic - pure, simple. My boy over there is rated fourth in the world in the Glock 30. You now what that means? What's it mean... ---

Derne: It means I could shoot you from Texas. ----

Max: Now that's of course exaggeration. But the point still stands, he knows what he's doing. He's a professional. And you're... you. You've already dropped the gun, because this is a choice within a very strict set of parameters. Right now you're in control. What you don't want to do is put him in control. Don't give him the choice. That way is death. That way
