A groomsman and his last-minute guest are about to discover if a fake date can go the distance in a fun and flirty debut novel. Agreeing to go to a wedding with a guy she gets stuck with in an elevator is something Alexa Monroe wouldn't normally do. But there's something about Drew Nichols that's too hard to resist. On the eve of his ex's wedding festivities, Drew is minus a plus one. Until a power outage strands him with the perfect candidate for a fake girlfriend. From the best man's toast to the bouquet toss, Alexa and Drew have more fun than they ever thought possible. But before they know it, Drew has to fly back to Los Angeles and his job as a pediatric surgeon, and Alexa heads home to Berkeley, where she's the mayor's chief of staff. Too bad they can't stop thinking about the other. They're just two high-powered professionals on a collision course toward the long distance dating disaster of the century--or closing the gap between what they think they need and what they truly want.

Meh. Good/easy beach read, but everything felt very predictable. It was a quick and feel-good read though!

2-1/3 stars. this was like a bag of plain air-popped popcorn, somewhat exciting in the beginning when it's hot but ultimately leaving you wishing for more flavor and substance. (note to self, go to movies soon and eat buttered popcorn)

I haven't posted a review on here yet, but I will for this one. I was really disappointed with this book. I just felt like I was reading a poorly written fanfiction.

I was looking forward to this book, but was really let down. I thought it would be a cute, warm, charming, and enjoyable romance. Instead, the story was laced with profanity and the relationship between the two characters was shallow and based purely on sex. The story was predictable with sex being the main event every time the two characters got together. The offensive and vulgar language that littered almost every page was a real turn-off. This was just smut in my opinion. I’ve crossed this author off of my reading list and will not be reading anymore of her books.

Cute love story, I loved the portrayal of the interracial relationship. The two main characters had great chemistry (Yowza!) but like every great romance, good communication is key. If you love someone, tell them! A very light, quick read.

A great, fun interracial romance from the meet-cute (stuck in an elevator), to the proposal (Alexa going as Drew's fake date to a wedding he's dreading), to the development of real feelings as they navigate visits to each other in LA and Berkeley, and all the sex in between. I loved that they both had jobs they cared about, and I appreciated the way Alexa worked through physical insecurities.

I really wanted to love this. I can't put my finger on it, but something about it didn't break through. The dialogue read fairly rote to me, and even despite the charm the characters do have, I couldn't fall in love with it like I wanted to. The bones are there, but execution let Guillory's story down.

It's a pleasant work. I think chic lit fans will enjoy it. Not particularly deep. But some of the situations had a very real feel.

Adorable! Great chemistry between the leads, and I liked that they both had other things going in their lives than one another. As in many books, the main conflict could have been resolved with a single honest conversation, but the author did a pretty good job of making it believable that the leads would put off having that conversation, so it didn't bother me too much. Really funny and pretty sexy, too.

What a gem! This contemporary romance is fun, sexy, and low-key funny with likable characters and realistic drama.
