"Outside an East Belfast mission hall, pastor and family man Samuel Orr meets Anna, a young Beckett scholar. They embark on an intense, passionate affair, their connection both intellectual and erotic. When Anna becomes pregnant, the affair is revealed. The repercussions are slow to emerge but inescapable, and the fallout, when it finally comes, is shocking. More than thirty years later, Sam, their son, is in New York, living a steady, guarded life, his childhood and family safely abandoned. But when the past once more crashes into his life, he is forced to confront the fears he has kept close all these years." -- From publisher's description.

I have mixed thoughts & feelings about this book. In the beginning it attracted me with it's sparse style. On the cover the word crisp was used & I thought that sums the style up so well. Spartan would apply also.
The story is about Anna, a student & Samuel, a pastor who meet & embark on an affair. There are repercussions from this that are still effecting people 35yrs later. About half way through the book the story teller becomes known to the reader & the style changes. After that the style wasn't so crisp.
