Truly awful film version of the book by Shirley Jackson. Only thing it has going for it is the wonderful production values -- obviously a lot of care was put into the sets. Not so much on the script or direction or acting.

One of the better scary stories.. The 1960's movie was better.. However this one is in color..

The 1960s version of The Haunting is one of the best horror movies ever made. This 1999 remake is one of the worst.

As a horror movie it works quite well. As an interpretation of the Shirley Jackson novel it is not faithful to the source document in almost all particulars. The 1960s film version is better for that.

Not the best movie ever made but worth a watch, I would recommend this movie to horror fans.

Cheesiness to say the least, but at least partially redeemed by Jerry Goldsmith's outstanding musical score.
