This is one of the best books I have ever read. Completed it in two evenings, didn't want it to end. Thank you Rhys Bowen, excellent book.

I was disappointed in this novel. I felt it needed editing. It dragged on and on . Didn't feel drawn to any of the main characters. The author threw in so many details on food and scenery almost like a filler. The conclusion was pretty preposterous and predictable.

A good read, both for its gentle pacing and its deep humanity. The parallel plots dovetail, and together provide a deep portrait both of the characters, and the central character of a hillside town in Tuscany.

I have read a lot of WWII fiction. This is a good read. It is clean, no f-bombs or other expletives. Interesting the way it went from 1944 to 1973 in later alternating chapters.

Historical fiction about a young women trying to find out what happened when her father's plane went down during WWII. Most of the book, both past and present, is set in a small Italian village with lots of descriptions of the country side and the food. A little mystery and romance were included to make it an OK read.
