Oh wow, how can I describe this book? As you could probably guess from the title, it's the Hindu epic Ramayana told from Sita's point of view. Sita is the wife of Rama, and she's kidnapped by a king who wants to marry her. This leads to a great war, of course, because great epic stories are often about that. This epic, though, seen through Sita's eyes, is much more about the toll on human relationships of corruption and war. There's a great essay in the back of the book that explains this much better than I could.

It's unlike most comics I'm used to - and not just the art style! There's heavy use of long voiceover narration boxes instead of dialogue boxes. There are so many different page layouts, and such interesting use of text boxes to draw the reader from panel to panel. I keep flipping back through it now that I've read the story, just to admire how the pages are put together.

The story is told from a female-character's perspective, but hardly a feminist story. The illustrations are colourful, but static and childish. The book is considered "juvenile fiction" by LAC CIP, why the OPL categorizes it as adult is beyond me.

The images are beautiful. I'm not used to reading graphic novels and found it confusing on occasion

Great art and story. The back explains about the history and re-tellings of this legend.
