Fabulous! You can really tell the conductor loved every piece, and enjoyed highlighting solo instruments: The melancholy horn that begins the Godfather theme; the delicate reed at the start of Ravel's Bolero; the lush strings in the waltzes, even a tuba.
Eidelweiss instantly took me to Christopher Plummer's heartfelt performance from The Sound of Music, and where he chokes and the the audience comes in; so does a strong chorus in this recording.
A rousing march, the Zorba the Greek theme, and a waltz composed by Sir Anthony Hopkins round out the album. Breath-taking and joyful, this will put a smile on your face.
