When women are finally able to run the kingdom instead of their oppressive men, they find that doing things differently can often times be better. A great twist on the fantasy genre with a diverse cast.

This was an interesting read, a largely enjoyable one reminiscent of Princeless with its feminist sensibilities. But where I know Princeless is solidly middle grade, I'm not sure where this one falls because the pop culture Easter eggs range from Hamilton to Monty Python, but some of the curses and interjections feel silly and middle-grade-ish, like censored stand-ins for swear words. Overall, I really did like it, but I was really hoping to love it.

concept: 5 stars, execution: 2. neat ideas, fun jokes, but the whole thing didn't hold together for me. was icked out by the generic sub-disney backgrounds, all pink and violet, until i decided they were ironic.
