An absorbing portrait of the artist, as well as an intimate encounter with the man himself. From the privacy of his home and painting studio in the Hollywood Hills, a candid Lynch conjures people and places from his past, from his boyhood in Idaho and Virginia to his experiences at art school in Boston and Philadelphia to the beginnings of his filmmaking career in Los Angeles, in stories that unfold like scenes from his movies.

You don't have to be a fan of David Lynch to enjoy this film, however, when you watch this, well, you may become one. I've been an avid, longtime admirer of his work and even I didn't know what to expect going into this. Typically reserved, almost to the point of enigma, Lynch appears gladly forthcoming and almost candid in this rare portrayal. The Art Life, filmed over several years, begins with his upbringing in Montana through to his cult hit, Eraserhead. Interspersed with Lynch's own paintings, his creative process, and soundtracked by music he himself created. It's just brilliant!
