This is the best book ever

Sep 21, 2017

A 2018-2019 Missouri Truman Readers Award preliminary nominee (grades 6-8).

Cas's father killed Em's mother and has been hunting down her people ever since, so now Em is going to make them pay, but first she has to pose as Cas's bride-to-be, marry him, and live in the castle as his wife while the pieces of her plan move into place. Did I mention that one of the groups of people have magical powers and the other group doesn't?

If this sounds similar to the plot of pretty much every YA fantasy novel ever, you're right, but yet I still found it exciting and fun.

Ruined is quite the story filled with action, romance and unique characters. The story follows Em who is trying to infiltrate her enemies kingdom and to find her captured sister, Olivia. However, this mission isn't as simple as Em expected after she meets the prince, Casimir, or also known as Cas. I have been looking for a really good read for some time and this book went beyond my expectations. The plot was amazing with non-stop action and suspense. I just didn't want to put the book down. The characters were unique: Em, a princess but one who knows how to hold a sword and fight despite her not having powers. Cas, the prince who surprisingly has a kind heart and Aren, who's loyalty never wavers. This whole story is just amazing and when I thought the story would go one way, it went the other. I can't wait for the next story. I think everyone should pick up this book. Five out of five stars!

I really liked Ruined, plainly speaking, but I also hated it at the same time which is strange. I loved the personality of Emelina Flores, the useless daughter of the most powerful queen the Ruined had ever known. I loved her blind desire to kill for revenge and for Olivia, her sister that was taken by the Lera. I loved how she was constantly planning to kill and never once doubted herself and her mission... at least in the beginning. Eventually I began to slowly lessen in my love for her character when she became acquainted with Casimir, the prince of Lera and the heir to the throne. But I think the storyline is really exquisite. I know some people believe that we didn’t get enough when it comes to the setting of the story, but I can still see it when you think of the fact that Em doesn’t know what her mother or ancestors have done. She is taking revenge for herself, and herself only, and for her fellow Ruined. The reason of me giving 4.5/5 stars is because the author killed off my favourite character! I highly recommend reading this novel, and you too will enjoy the frightening journey of Em, Damian and Aren. Rating 4.5/5

Sure, you've seen star-crossed lovers before, but this is still a pretty great book. Good dialogue, sweet characters, a fast plot, and hardcore action/violence/death. And it's a fantasy novel that's not 500+ pages!

Slightly different from your regular teen fantasy. I liked the world and the characters, although it was quite a big jump into the world.
