Annabelle Aster doesn't bow to convention-not even that of space and time-which makes the 1890s Kansas wheat field has appeared in her modern-day San Francisco garden easy to accept. Even more peculiar is Elsbeth, the truculent schoolmarm who sends Annie letters through the mysterious brass mailbox perched on the picket fence that now divides their two worlds.

If you love genre-bending novels with eccentric characters, magic, and a touch of romance, this should be on your list! Equally character-driven and plot-driven, it is full of twists, turns and time travel. It has a pinch of The Night Circus, a hint of The Time Traveller's Wife, and language worthy of The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie. After reading it, I wanted to go hunting for my own magician's door at the local antique shop!
