Meet Moses, a baby African Bush Elephant with big floppy ears, a long trunk, lots of curiosity, and a definite love of mischief. Moses, in fact, is often quite naughty!
The young elephant was brought to live at the Jumbo Foundation Elephant Orphanage in Malawi after being found alone and helpless in the bush by some rangers. Tragically, his mother had been killed by poachers.
Since then, Moses has grown and flourished at the Orphanage, which has become a safe, loving home for him.
The young pachyderm is very close to his human caregiver (the author, Jenny). He's also good friends with his caregiver's family and with other rescued animals at the refuge, such as a donkey and a cat. Moses spends his days playing, exploring and learning about the world around him, much like a human toddler. He often gets into "monkey business" - mischief such as sticking his tail into chili sauce by accident or throwing fresh mud all over his caregiver's clean dress!
Moses is a real-life elephant, and the Jumbo foundation, which rescues orphaned / injured animals and care for them until are ready to be released into the wild, operates in partnership with the Malawi Department of National Parks and Wildlife. Its founder is the Zimbabwean-born author of this book.
The amusing antics and lovable personality of this young elephant will endear him to readers of all ages. Information about these fascinating animals and their habitat, plus many full-colour photos of Moses are included in thie heartwarming, inspiring book - which is divided into short chapters, making it a good read-aloud choice.
** Recommended for ages 4 to 8 years.
