He was named "Sham" for the sun, this golden-red stallion born in the Sultan of Morocco's stone stables. Upon his heel was a small white spot, the symbol of speed. But on his chest was the symbol of misfortune. Although he was swift as the desert winds, Sham's pedigree would be scorned all his life by cruel masters and owners. This is the classic story of Sham and his friend, the stable boy Agba. Their adventures take them from the sands of the Sahara to the royal courts of France, and finally to the green pastures and stately homes of England. For Sham was the renowned Godolphin Arabian, whose blood flows through the veins of almost every superior thoroughbred. Sham's speed'like his story'has become legendary.

An excellent story with a happy ending, all based on fact.
Seabiscuit and Man O War are descendants of this Arabian stallion.
Vocabulary is not dumbed down for young readers- it's a classic.

One of my favorite horse books when I was a kid and horse obsessed. I still love it. The writing is amazing and the whole story is beautiful. I highly suggest it for anyone, no matter the age.

I read this when I was young and read every horse book there was. Growing up with Thoroghbreds and Arabians was awesome. Neat to see the history of the breed. Enjoyed this book.

After a horse-crazed childhood, I became a librarian. Okay, a horse crazed, mostly adult librarian. This is my favorite horse novel...still.

This book is the story of the Godolphin Arabian and how it made a journey from Morocco to Paris and then England to be the father to many, many fast race horses. He created the fastest thoroughbreds to race at New Market. The story is about a little boy who loves him and takes care of him. I enjoyed this story.
