A wonderful film worth watching and reflecting upon. What's it about, decide for yourself. This is not a "Western" in the usual sense. Certainly it is not a film most children would enjoy. Pay attention to the important part the various dogs in the film play.

Patagonia is beautiful and eerie. The plot in this movie is threadbare and silly so think it should have been a travelogue not an allegory.

A good part of the movie seems almost real, but then some parts seem to be possibly surreal. I am not sure what to make of it. Is the director playing with the audience like David Lynch? Or is he showing a man that begins to hallucinate from a long, long search for his daughter? The audience is given a chance to not take things too seriously as Viggo’s character stumbles repeatedly during his rock-climbing and his sword seems to hang too low, etc, etc. And the guy out in the open field seemed to be having a little too much fun with himself in a bathtub. The film really goes off the rails in the last 30 minutes or so.
