The physics of vulnerability is simple: If we are brave enough often enough, we will fall. The author of the #1 New York Times bestsellers Daring Greatly and The Gifts of Imperfection tells us what it takes to get back up, and how owning our stories of disappointment, failure, and heartbreak gives us the power to write a daring new ending. Struggle, Brene Brown writes, can be our greatest call to courage, and rising strong our clearest path to a wholehearted life.

A friend recommended this one so I decided I'd grab it from the library. I didn't know much about the book (although I've heard a TON of great things about the author), but really enjoyed it. One thing that stood out to me (and I hope to integrate into my daily life) was the practice of stating "the story I made up is...". This is HUGE! So many hurt feelings are due to either unsaid expectations or stories we tell ourselves (i.e. 'The hubby said that or did that because... {you fill in the blank about something you are telling yourself}.). I think this literally can be a game changer in relationships - but obviously it requires communication and vulnerability. I would give it an 8 out of 10.

Not only a self-help book, Brene's Rising Strong is an inspirational, anecdote-filled ode to all those who have faced challenges in their lives (ie., all of us). Brene is an eloquent writer and speaker who gets right to the heart of the matter. She doesn't take any crap, and she doesn't give any. Her technique is well-founded in research as well as biographical experiences, and is attainable for the reader no matter what their background.
Rising Strong encourages us to take the hits-and hit back harder. It's a worthwhile and powerful (with just the right amount of humor and sarcasm) for anyone!

I read this for work. She references her previous book quite often.

It doesn't matter how many times you fall, only that you rise and rise strong.

I'm a Brene Brown fan, so I went into this book expecting to like it. And I loved it. Brown practices what she believes in--she is honest, caring and inspirational in the stories she shares and the content of her research. Life isn't easy & requires each of us to understand our fears, biases and shame. And then we have to get help, speak truth and move forward. Each time I've read a book by Brown, I am helped in a current struggle. Thanks Brene Brown!
