High Art

High Art

DVD - 2004
Average Rating:
Rate this:
This film depicts a naive young woman whose stock rises at a pretentious art magazine because of her budding relationship with a once brilliant photographer who had a breakdown years ago. The question is how deeply Syd is willing to immerse herself in Berliner's hedonistic, heroin-infused, lesbian lifestyle.
MPAA rating: R; strong sexuality, pervasive drug use and language.

A young female assistant editor for a photography magazine stumbles across a neighbor who is a former great photographer. A lesbian relationship develops and with a mix of sex and drugs, some new critically acclaimed photos are produced, leading to “High Art.” I guess we get an example of the phrase, “Let sleeping dogs lie.” I guess I liked and/or understood this movie less than the critics.

Loved this film, on my favorite list, one of the greatest films I have ever seen!

Watching the two main characters fall in love is exciting, but a lingering theme is how difficult it can be for a person to really get out of a relationship when there's someone new. Also, consequently, how expendable a person can become when a partner starts to care about somebody else. You feel for the two secondary characters in the film who are abandoned --Ally Sheedy plays an excellent seductress.

A wonderful directorial debut from Lisa Cholodenko (The Kids Are All Right). Ally Sheedy, Radha Mitchell and Patricia Clarkson give outstanding performances. High Art is an incredibly passionate and intimate story of love, drugs, and sexuality.

Wicked movie and a touching love story that is twisted as well. Drugs and obsession as well as some hot scenes.
