Nathan Hale provides an overview to the causes and dynamics of World War I that streamlines an abundance of information into an engrossing story. This book uses historical facts, visual aids and humor to educate readers both young and old. Hale’s stylized drawings represent each country as different animals and don’t come across as cartoony but rather help to illustrate the seriousness of the subject matter. This book is an excellent entry point for readers wanting to learn about WWI but are easily bored with traditional history textbooks.

Packed a lot of stuff on a small book by limiting to mostly Western Front, few sea battles, & some air battles. United States as timid rabbits instead of proud eagle due to overlap funny. Ditto two shell shocked ,er, PTSD sidekicks wanting an innocent safe story after experiencing horrors of war. Author described the changes in war equipment & borders as German Empire, Austria-Hungary Empire, Ottoman Empire & Russian Empire became no more.
