Best known for creating "Nightmare on Elm Street" and directing the "Scream" series, this film by Wes Craven slipped through the cracks. It's imperfect, but also one of his most interesting, atypical films. Bill Pullman plays an anthropologist who goes to Haiti in search of the drugs used in Voodoo, but soon finds himself in over his head with local authorities and actual Voodoo. Pullman is a little miscast, but this has a creepy vibe, good use of the Haitian setting and characters and some genuinely unsettling moments. Has some parallels with another headtrip movie, Ken Russell's "Altered States."
