"When Stacey Bess gets her first teaching job, she's shocked. It's not at all what she expected. Stacey is assigned to something called the School With No Name, a space in a homeless shelter that's supposed to be a classroom. The children are all ages, many from broken families, thrown together in a 'classroom' lacking essentials like desks and books. Stacey must tackle her own fears and insecurities as she works to gain the attention and respect of her young students. Using her compassion and determination she takes on both nervous school board officials and apprehensive parents. Eventually she transforms the barren space into a warm, comfortable environment where the children not only acquire knowledge, they also acquire self-respect and a measure of dignity. Beyond the Blackboard is inspired by a true story."--P. [4] of cover.

Excellent film based on a true story about a new teacher being given as her first class a group of homeless children. She refused to be a babysitter and managed to teach the kids. The support of her own family (husband and two children) was crucial to her success. This is well worth watching.

It's nice to know that there are those teachers out there who care & go above & beyond! Especially in his day & age where teachers think that it's not their job to do everything they can to help children succeed. Some teachers today feel if a child is failing it's because he or she isn't trying hard enough & it's his or her own fault, rather then seeing the real cause of the failure. Emily VanCamp is a great actress. It's nice to see her & Treat Williams in something together since Everwood.

At first, I just wanted to see it because Willow Shields was in it (along with her twin sister Autumn (Annie) and her brother River (I think he was Alex) ) But it really touched me! It was wonderful, heartbreaking, and inspiring! I want to buy this movie now! :D
