When his army unit is ambushed during the first Gulf War, Sergeant Raymond Shaw saves his fellow soldiers just as his commanding officer, Major Ben Marco, is knocked unconscious. Using the incident for political gain, Shaw eventually becomes a vice-presidential nominee, but Marco is haunted by dreams of what really happened in Iraq. As Marco investigates, the story begins to unravel. He begins to figure that the entire unit was kidnapped and brainwashed as part of a plot to get Shaw into the White House. Now the Manchurian Global corporation appears desperate to stop him from finding out.

Not too bad remake of a classic. The original is better, but this is pretty good.

I liked the original film and thought I would not like this version. It is not quite a remake. Instead the story is updated and expanded ... this is often a bad thing but it works well for this version. Streep is brilliant, as is Denzel Washington. The camera work is great and the story is tight (as tight as it can be for a man wrestling with the question of what is real). I liked trying to figure out the diferent layers and point-of-view shots. I did not have that experience in the first version. So, yeah, this version is different from the original but in a very good way. Both versions have their merits.

I thought this movie was good but not great. Something missing for me. This movie felt more of a high end twilight zone or outer limits show than an actual movie. Also, some parts of the movie where extremely unrealistic, like the part when John Voight dies, where are the secret service??? Not bad but could have been better.

Total crud. See the 1962 original version, which was both thrilling and funny, instead of this corporate junk. Demme's witless, inept remake proves that he was always a commercial shill. His handful of early, halfway decent films must have been happy accidents.

The grandaddy of the paranoid political thriller film.

This movie was entertaining and interesting but not one of my favorite for this year. “Not too bad---good performance”. "I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way.”

The history has good potential, but at certain point I feel the film losted the momentum it was unfortunate

Dienzel Washington, as fascinating & impressive actor as always, exposing the crimes of corporate mafias & their political stooges, investing & profiting by making wars all over the world.

EXCELLENT THRILLER FILM!!!

Noyle: [voiceover] Now, when you're rescued and returned with your patrol to command headquarters, what will be among the first of your duties that you'll undertake?

Ben Marco: I'll recommend Sergeant Shaw for the Medal of Honor, sir. He saved our lives. He terminated the enemy. Led us across the desert to safety.

Noyle: Excellent. And there were casualties?

Ben Marco: There's always casualties in war, sir.
