As with all the lectures from The Learning Company, this program is top notch and may actually be the future of education. I've never taken a geology class but after watching this I am confident that I would do fairly well on a college level intro geology test. The lecturer, Michael Wysession, is very engaging and lays out the series in a very logical manner such that early episodes provide a foundation for the later ones. But he provides much more than just dry geological information: each episode focuses on a single geological wonder with vivid pictures, graphics, and animations; he also makes references to historical and cultural significance (as well as where you may have seen these wonders in movies or other media); and, finally, wraps up the episode with a top 5 list of similar features elsewhere in the world. This program is for those who want to understand how the earth formed over millions of years (plate tectonics, vulcanism, climate change, etc.) It is NOT a travel show for people planning their next family trip (although one could easily compile a nearly inexhaustible list of places to visit.)

Agree with shlby69m, lengthy lecture style DVD set as "Mysteries of Modern Physics - Time, 2012 by Sean Carroll, California Institute of Technology." For Geology students and not so much for casual viewers who are used to Nature, Discover Channel, BBC/PBS and National Geographic programs. For much richer visual experience, suggest to watch "Amazing Earth collection - Discovery Channel, 2012." (See this program's trailer in videos.)

Excellent course that should be viewed by all senior undergraduate (and also M.Sc.) Geology students.

Not really all that great for the simple internet tourist bent on sightseeing spectacular scenery.
