What could have been a touching story about a girl and her horse turned out to be a rather muddled and unremarkable book about a girl grieving the loss of her father. In the process, she happens to rescue a temperamental horse.

It seemed like the author couldn't decide whether to write a horse story or a story about loss. Because of this, the book lacked any sort of emotional punch that I would have expected. Also, the author lacked real knowledge about horses and the difficulties that go into rehabilitating abused animals. Instead, the girl's horse seemed to instantly obey her every command without much effort on the part of the girl.

In short, I found the story unfocused and unrealistic.
