A captivating story of two very different women who build an unexpected friendship: a 91-year-old woman with a hidden past as an orphan-train rider and the teenage girl whose own troubled adolescence leads her to seek answers to questions no one has ever thought to ask. A powerful tale of upheaval and resilience, second chances, and unexpected friendship.

I enjoyed the audio book very much. My take-away from the story: While it may seem as if a 17-year-old girl and 91-year-old woman are lifetimes away ... and they are ... shared human feelings and experiences form a bond, opening the doors for an extraordinary, rich friendship. Finished the book very happy that I listened.

This was one of the best books I have read in a while. It dealt with the children (on the orphan trains). It went back and forth from the 1920's (one of the children from the orphan train) to the present ( a troubled girl in foster care) and how these two women intersected to tell the tale.

I listened to the first CD and thought it would be a good story. I liked the theme, characters and where I sensed the story was going. However, the readers were awful! I thought my Ipod was set on fast, 2x speed. I checked it and it was set on normal speed. The women reading read very fast and in a high-pitched voice. I couldn't continue. I'll have to wait until I have time to read the book.
