To be honest, this series isn't nearly as well written as Harry's "American Empire" series...and still are a far cry from the brilliant "How Few Remain" and "The Guns of the South". The main issues is very repetitive storytelling and not much is actually accomplished. Important events happening in the world are usually glossed over and I find Turtledove spends too much time meandering in boring characters lives, to the burden of the reader. Don't feel guilty if you give this one a pass.

Another book in the alternative history series of the War that came early. It is a great book for people who are interested in history and "what if...", as well as those interested in military tactics. Turtledove creates characters from all sides in the war; they are drawn very realistically; you can empathize with them even though they are the enemy.
