Game Change is a searing, behind-the-scenes look at John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign, from the decision to select Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as McCain's running mate to the ticket's ultimate defeat in the general election just sixty days later. Told primarily through the eyes of senior McCain strategist Steve Schmidt, who originally championed Palin and later came to regret the choice.

This is a 2012 American HBO political drama directed by Jay Roach, based on events of the 2008 United States presidential election campaign.
The film focuses on the selection and performance of Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin as running mate to Senator John McCain in the Republican presidential campaign.
It is a profoundly interesting docudrama with an unintentional political comedy.
I honestly enjoyed it as an entertaining piece and American political farce.

Kudos to Julianne. Her portrayal of Sarah Palin, a small-town Alaskan woman out of her league in Washington, was amazing. You see a different side of her and, considering that Palin herself didn't approve of the film, maybe the truth is a touch too ugly for some. I would definitely recommend this made-for-TV movie to all politically minded audiences or those who have a particular interest in the grizzly mama that is Palin.

The sad part of the reality this portrays is that I actually know a (then) 63 year old woman who voted for McCain/Palin because of the way she dressed. Makes you wonder if this movie is an indictment of the campaign or of the superficiality of voters who really don't care much about issues, only appearances, and the party that delivers them best.

A surprisingly entertaining film that looks at the 2008 Campaigh from the perspective of those who worked on it. An indictment of Sarah Palin's lack of preparation for the role she had to play, but also a look at what would become a Conservative superstar. Julianne Moore hits it out of the park.

A highly dramatic account of the Palin Vice Presidency decision...and it's implications in one of the most crucial US Presidential Elections.

Great performance from Julianne Moore. Ed Harris as John McCain however seemed a bit of a stretch.

Chomsky: Palin was right about Obama’s ‘hopey-changey’ gimmick

“I don’t usually admire Sarah Palin, but when she was making fun of this ‘hopey-changey’ stuff, she was right,” Chomsky said. “There was nothing there. And it was understood by the people who run the political system.”

“It’s no great secret that the U.S. electoral system is mainly a public relations extravaganza to keep away from issues,” Chomsky continued. “It’s sort of a marketing affair. And the people who run it are the advertisers. … They had their national convention right after the 2008 election and revealed that they understood perfectly what was going on. And they gave Obama the award for best marketing campaign of the year.”

The author dismissed Obama from the beginning — he never expected anything but “smoke and mirrors” from his administration, he said, and has stridently criticized the president’s positions on civil liberties. Back in June, Chomsky said Obama’s drone strike policy terrorized civilians and turned them against the U.S.

“Obama is running the biggest terrorist operation that exists, maybe in history: the drone assassination campaigns, which are just part of it. … All of these operations, they are terror operations,” he said in an interview with GRITtv. “You are generating more terrorist operations.”

One of the real villains in this movie is not Sarah Palin (who’s just a naïve endearing uneducated simpleton). It’s cold American borderline Islamophobic sanctimonious terrible human beings like Nicolle Wallace who don’t vote in the election, because they’re not willing to vote for a real anti-war candidate (NOT r0mBAMA) and/or an independent. If you hate the likes of Sarah Palin so much that you’re not willing to exercise your democratic right because you think there’s no one (else) to vote for and/or you've got no one else to vote for, that's depressing.

There must be something terribly wrong with the American system if there are so few options. At least politically they’re not lacking in racial diversity, but that’s pretty much one of the only things they’ve got going for them. [Yet how many Muslims, Arabs, and American Aboriginals are there in the (upper echelons of the) American political system?] I think America can do a lot better than r0mBAMA and the republicrats...

John McCain was someone I was waiting for to accept the Republican candidacy for President of the United States. I was sadly disappointed when Sarah Palin became his running mate. So as much as I would have hoped for McCain as President I was that much more fearful of what Palin could do as VP and God-forbid, President. Game Change confirmed all that I felt. It went through the process of how a campaign is run and all of the expected as well as unexpected instances in a campaign. The McCain campaign was totally blindsided by Palin and as such the Presidency would be lost to the Democrats. There was no way they could recover and all the way through I am going, "Get rid of her." I highly recommend this movie.

No matter the outcome of this film the reality is worse then anything you can imagine. Look at what this campaign gave to America with Obama & Biden and all the liberals.

What kind of idiot would pick Sarah Palin as a running mate? Oh . . .yeah. . . right, John McCain, the guy who bombed his own aircraft carrier.

“John McCain: “Who is the real Barack Obama?”

Republican Supporter: “A terrorist!”

Steve Schmidt [talking about McCain]: “I’m amazed that someone who has been in politics this long takes all the petty stuff so personally.”

Rick Davis: “And that’s why they are who they are. (That’s) Reagan, Bush, Clinton—all they want is to be loved. The ones that don’t pathologically need to be loved, they don’t get the nomination. They don’t get to be president. If you’d understood that fact you might have been able to better handle our Alaskan moose hunter. God, it was a tough campaign.”

Steve: “It wasn’t a campaign, it was a bad reality show.”

Rick: “She didn’t cost us the election. That was Bush. That was the economy. That was just the cold hand of fate. We didn’t have a chance.”

Nicolle Wallace: “Do you think the Fed did the right thing in their dealing with the Bear Stearns collapse?”

Sarah Palin: “Our economy is hurting… and the federal government has not provided the sound oversight that we need and that we deserve. I think we need a little bit of reality from Wasilla Main Street there brought to Wasington, DC…so that the people there can understand how the average working-class family is viewing bureaucracy in the federal government.”

Nicolle: “On any Fed or Bear Stearns question just say the Fed took the appropriate action that was needed at the time. Okay?”

Steve Schmidt: “Governor, do you know why we’re in Iraq?”

Palin: “Because Saddam Hussein attacked us on 9/11.”

Steve: “No. No. Al-Qaeda attacked us on 9/11.”

Palin: “Not Saddam Hussein?”

Steve: “No, it was Al-Qaeda. And that’s why we’re in Afghanistan.”

Nicolle: “Do you know the differences between the war in Afghanistan and the war in Iraq?”

Extensive quotes from IMBd web site such as : Rick Davis: Listen, I too wish that the American people would choose the future Abraham Lincoln or Thomas Jefferson, but unfortunately, that's not the way it works anymore. Now it takes movie-star charisma to get elected President, and Obama and Palin, that's what they are - they're stars. ---- John McCain: You're one of the leaders of the party now Sarah. Don't get co-opted by Limbaugh and the other extremists. They'll destroy the party if you let them.
