I love Charlie Chan in Shanghai. I watched it once more yesterday and realized I missed one of the special features: the 1931 movie “Eran Trece,” the Spanish version of Earl derr Biggers' book “Charlie Chan Carries On,” which movie is no longer available. I read Biggers book and from what I remember, the Spanish film kept close to the story. Just like in the book, Chan only appears halfway through the story. Raul Roulien does a fantastic job as Max Michin, the retired bad guy from Chicago. Juan Torena, I think, was trying a Valentino approach to Dick Kennaway… If you Spanish from Spain, Eran Trece is the movie for you. I highly enjoyed it.

Entertaining feature with a young and future superstar, John Hall, playing under another name. Warner Oland made for a great Charlie Chan. Sydney Toler also did his own Charlie Chan move in Shanghai.
